“The Great Gatsby” – like it or not, one can hardly deny its appropriate place in the annals of modern american literature. The story is simplistic, elegantly so, and told with beautiful language and verve and emotion. One “writer” however, feeling that today’s youths are nothing more than a bunch of a mindless illiterate troglodytes, has published a “dumbed down” version of this seminal work of art. Her name is Margaret Tanner and the edition I speak of is “The Great Gatsby – The Macmillan Reader Edition” – I, like Roger Ebert describes in this biting article, am hesitant to post a link to the “book” in its awful entirety, but like looking at a car crash or a dead baby, people’s curiousity for the morbid and foul is limitless – so here, and prepare to be disgusted. Link to “The Great Gatsby – The Macmillan Reader Edition”I strongly urge anyone who is as offended as I am to tell MacMillan so, and you can do so here - http://ecom.cdfbooks.com/contactus.htm - do not let them sell our kids short by distilling a literature classic and robbing it of its integrity.

LOS ANGELES — Looking to expand its laffer offerings following years of success on the drama side, USA Network is teaming with Denis Leary on a U.S. adaptation of the Brit comedy series “Sirens.”
Leary, who writes, exec produces and plays a fireman on FX’s “Rescue Me,” will develop and co-write the half-hour pilot about two young paramedics with Bob Fisher. Leary and his Apostle shingle partner Jim Serpico will exec produce, along with Fisher, Hal Vogel and David Aukin. Pilot will be produced by Fox Television Studios in conjunction with Daybreak Pictures.
“Our half-hours will be written and produced by creators with a specific and unique point of view,” said Bill McGoldrick, USA senior VP of original programming. “Denis and Jim have brought those two qualities to everything they’ve done.”
USA has four other pilots awaiting possible series orders: “Common Law,” “Eden,” “Over/Under” and “Wild Card.”

Apparently the show is going to be based off an upcoming British television show called “Sirens” which is in turn based off this London Paramedic’s blog: http://randomreality.blogware.com
First up, Woody Allen’s “Midnight In Paris” a return to form for the director, lighthearted, had me smiling and laughing the entire time. And if you’re not already in love with Paris, you will be by this film’s end. The below trailer does a great job of setting it up without ruining the surprise. Beware, Owen Wilson is quite the revelation in this film:
Next, Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” – which I have not seen, but am sold on entirely by the craftsmanship and artistry of this trailer. I personally have heard stories of the immensely moving experience this film can muster, and I, for one, cannot wait to experience it myself.
Next, Lars Von Trier’s “Melancholia” – being described as a “beautiful movie about the end of the world” – this filmmakers previous work “Antichrist” was so startling that I am greatly intrigued by his newest project:
Julia Leigh’s “Sleeping Beauty” starring Emily Browning – I know almost nothing about this movie except it appears an interesting take on an old classic, stripped of its sugar sweet, childish Disney upbringing and brought back to the dark roots of the story’s origin
Yes, sad but true, the FX series “Rescue Me” is coming to an end this year after 7 great seasons. Here are a few trailers for the upcoming season, which airs on FX in July, as well as a few older trailers, which I think are pretty awesome too.
I began this blog in an attempt to put my photography out there in the “web-i-sphere”. Since then, it has transformed into something else entirely. It has become a place for me to share my political views, religious beliefs, or sometimes just things that I find interesting. Occasionally they’re geeky, ... Continue reading »
