As many probably know, Sunday comedian George Carlin passed away from heart failure. He was 71. His biting edge commentary will be sorely missed. (Here’s a link to CNN for more). Here is also a link to one his last great, stand-up routines called “Life is Worth Losing”. Here is a link to the movie “Dogma” with Carlin in one of his best rolls (in my humble opinion).

Also as important, Stan Winston recently passed on. The creative mastermind behind such great films as Jurassic Park, The Terminator, and many other amazing films. Click the links above to see the master at work and here is a well put together tribute of this great man at work. While I won’t get on a soapbox, I would like to let today’s CGI-driven generation know where all these overused “fancy effects” originated from…. namely plaster and molds. Stan Winston did things that nobody else could, taking ideas from Steven Spielberg and James Cameron and making them into tangible, physical realities that millions have enjoyed over the years. He will be greatly missed.
