From what I can gather, the gist is that the cells are derived from antibodies that the body creates to fight off infection. The problem with HIV is its adaptability and its method of destroying the body’s immune cells. What these newly discovered antibodies do is bind to the virus to prevent it from latching onto the immune cells (CD4). It would be great if this could lead to something tangible.
And I would like to give the award for most awesome Person of the Month to Illinois Gov Quinn, who saved funding for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). And expanded its covereage to boot! I wish I could say the same about Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina.
